General Mills cereal

I was so happy to receive in my mailbox four FREE General Mills cereal coupons from General Mills via MyBlogSpark. My kids love eating cereal and I love getting a great deal! According to the information General Mills passed on to MyBlogSpark:

Did you know that ready-to-eat cereal eaters consume less fat, less cholesterol and more fiber than non-cereal eaters? Cereals also deliver important vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients, making cereal a top source of key nutrients in children’s diets.

Other cereal benefits:

* Ready-to-eat cereals, including presweetened cereals, account for only 5% of sugar in children’s diets.

* Ready-to-eat cereal is the No. 1 source of whole grains in a child’s diet today.

* More frequent cereal eaters tend to have healthier body weights and lower Body Mass Index measures.
I was very happy to receive in my mailbox the other day 4 coupons for FREE General Mills cereal from BlogSpark! My kids love getting cereal for breakfast and I love getting a great deal on it!

According to the information General Mills passed on to BlogSpark:

Studies also demonstrate the benefits of eating breakfast. A 1998 study showed that children who eat breakfast tend to perform better at school. Compared to children who skip breakfast, children who eat breakfast score higher on tests, are less likely to miss class or be tardy, have fewer reported discipline problems, and make fewer trips to the office.

Baking Day

I wanted to update you as this was going, but I got on a roll...

I started out this morning with a whopping list, and I wasn't sure I could finish, but I wanted to get as much accomplished as I could. I had a couple of awesome helpers, and we finished the whole list! Here is some pictures of our day:

We started out by making yummy granola:

I browned up a total of 6lbs. of meat, a mix of venison and sausage. My apologies to anyone reading this with a queasy stomach!

I cooked up a bunch of chicken breasts to make easier "throw together" meals like enchiladas, farmhouse chicken, and chicken stir fry.

One of my helpers getting the ground chuck made into hamburger patties and meatballs. Again, for those nights when "nothing sounds good", we can throw the pre-made burgers on the grill for a quick, easy, kid pleasing dinner.

My other helper, cutting up potatoes for freezer mashed potatoes. Quick shephard's pie, anyone?

Pumpkin muffins....note to self: when making muffins, make sure that you do not have the oven set at the granola temp of 250...the muffins will not rise! They are flat topped, but still taste good. Quick snacks!

Sausage, egg, and cheese breakfast pockets. Quick and easy breakfast on those days when Hubby is running a bit late to work.

I bagged the meatballs, and getting ready to bag up the flash frozen hamburger patties.

Putting the potatoes through the victorio strainer proved to make mashed potatoes much easier. Especially in the quantity that we made them in!

All in all, I had to say that it was a great day and we had a LOT of fun working together! I also have about 14 dinners, and a bunch of breakfasts all made, ready to go! Can't beat spending less time in the kitchen during the next couple of weeks, right?

Out With the Old...In With the New....

MoneySavingMom is co-hosting an "Eating from the Pantry" event, beginning on Jan 1. The idea is to eat what you have and save money by NOT going to the grocery store. I am going to work this a wee bit differently, as I would need to get a couple of things in January myself, mainly dairy. So, what I am going to do is an "Eat From the Pantry", but have a $20/week grocery budget for cheese, sour cream, and yogurt.
I am going to work towards that being the ONLY things I spend money on in January, and then I can fund the February Freezer Cooking that I am wanting to do. I am making a last trip to the store this week, and then I am having a cooking/baking day on Friday. Yes, I know that it's Christmas, but we celebrate Hanukkah in my house, and my hubby will be home that day anyway, so I will have a "distraction" for the boys.
I will be posting pictures on Friday as I go along, but I do not expect any of you to see them until Saturday...ENJOY YOUR FAMILY!!

Can't wait to try this! Won't you join me?
